Shahbaz Sharif to Appear Before JIT Today
ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will appear before the Joint Investigating Team (JIT) constituted by the Supreme Court to probe allegations of money laundering against the Sharif family.
Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif will appear before that JIT around 11 am today to record his statement at the Federal Judicial Academy. He will be the fourth member of the Sharif family to appear before the JIT.
Earlier, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif had arrived in Islamabad on Friday evening. While talking to journalists, he said the conspiracy elements are once again indulging in politics of lies.
Shahbaz said,“I do not have time to respond to the opposition’s baseless allegations and will serve the people till my last breath.”
Chief Minister Punjab will appear before Panamagate joint investigation team (JIT) in allegation of the government machinery is being misused to hamper its probe into the ruling family’s offshore assets.
Strict security measures have been taken around that Federal Judicial academy to avoid any untoward incident.
JIT meeting headed by Federal Investigation Agency’s Additional Director Wajid Zia was held at Judicial Academy and they prepared the questionnaire for the CM Punjab in the light of replies of PM sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz.
JIT also reviewed the statements given by PM Nawaz Sharif before JIT and the documents he had submitted. The JIT has already recorded the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif statements on Thursday at Islamabad’s Judicial Academy – which is temporarily turned into the JIT’s secretariat and inquired him for more than two hours. PM Nawaz Sharif son-in-law Captain (Ret) Safdar will also appear before the court on June 24.
The six-member JIT has been constituted by the apex court to examine the business dealings of the Sharif family abroad. The apex court has also been monitoring the proceedings of the JIT on fortnightly basis.
Led by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Wajid Zia, the team will consist of State Bank of Pakistan officer Amer Aziz, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Executive Director Bilal Rasool, National Accountability Bureau’s Balochistan Director General Irfan Naeem Mangi, retired Brig Mohammad Nauman Saeed of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Brig Kamran Khurshid from Military Intelligence (MI).
