Leonardo DiCaprio Returns Brando’s Oscar
Hollywood(June 17, 2017): American actor Leonardo DiCaprio has returned over Marlon Brando’s Oscar that was gifted to him by ‘corrupt’ Wolf of Wall Street production partners funded by stolen Malaysian funds, as federal investigation continues.
U.S. authorities moved on Thursday to seize a Picasso painting given to American movie star Leonardo DiCaprio and the rights to two Hollywood comedies, as they filed complaints to recover about $540million they say was stolen from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad sovereign wealth fund.
DiCaprio has also initiated the return of other, unidentified items that the actor said he accepted as gifts for a charity auction and which originated from people connected to the 1MDB wealth fund, they said in a statement.
In July, Hollywood production company Red Granite was accused in a U.S. civil lawsuit of using $100 million that prosecutors said had been diverted from the 1MDB fund to finance DiCaprio’s 2013 film “The Wolf of Wall Street,” in which he starred.
The U.S. Justice Department filing was the latest legal action tied to alleged money laundering at the fund set up by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak in 2009 to promote economic development.
