PS-114 By-Poll: Polling Starts Amidst Stringent Security

Karachi (July 9, 2017): The polling has begun in the provincial PS-114 constituency here at 8  o’clock this morning under the stringent security arrangements here. The primary contest is expected to be between the candidates of Pakistan Peoples Party(PPP), MQM Pakistan, Pakistan Muslim League (N), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).

The by-poll is being aggressively contested by the above mentioned political parties as a preparation for the general elections scheduled to be held middle of next year.

This could be gauged from the fact that the central leaders of these parties participated in the election campaign for their candidates. These included chairman of PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PTI, JTI, and PMLN.

The polling that has begun at 8 this morning will continue without break till 5 p.m. The esult will be announced vide the latest telecommunication system.

The seat was left vacant after the disqualification of PMLN’s  Irfanullah Marwat who was declared the winner from PS-114 in May 2013 general elections. Marwat’s win was declared null and void by Election Commission’s Tribunal in July 14 which was upheld by the Supreme Court.

PPP has nominated Saeed Ghani, Najeeb Haroon is PTI’s candidate, Kamran Tessori is MQM Pakistan’s pick, Ali Akbar is PMLN’s hopeful, JI’s candidate is Zahoor Jadoon.

The total  number of registered vote in constituency is 193,000 for whom a total of 92 polling stations are being established.

String gent security arrangements are being made to ensure that by-polls are held in peaceful and conducive environment. These include deputation of 2,000 Rangers personnel who would be posted in and outside the 92 polling booths and those making rounds on the motorcycle. There will also be police while police commandoes would be posted at the sensitive polling stations.

In the 2013 polls, PML-N’s Marwat bagged 37,130 votes while MQM’s Rauf Siddiqui got 30,305 votes. Moreover, PTI’s Israr Abbasi got 13,807 votes while PPP’s Sajjad Ahmed Pappi only 3,827 votes.
