China issues safety advisory for citizens travelling to India
Also, Beijing issued a clarification stating it had not denied visa to any member of the India Foundation delegation to visit China.
Both these developments come as the Doklam standoff between the two neighbours stands firm. “It is not a travel alert. It is advisory asking Chinese travellers to be careful,” an official of the Foreign Ministry told a news agency.
The advisory, issued through the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi, asked Chinese travellers to India to pay close attention to the security situation and take necessary precautions.
The spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in India, Xie Liyan, denied reports suggesting that two researchers of a seven-member India Foundation delegation were denied visa for visiting the Fudan University in Shanghai.
“As far as I know, all seven members of India Foundation delegation to visit China got their visas in time. None of the visa applications was denied. The delegation will visit China as scheduled,” the Embassy said in a statement.
The recent meeting between PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at G20 Summit had given hope it would lead to some steps for de-escalation.
