Indian bride refuses to tie the knot with groom addicted to 'gutka'

An Indian bride refused to marry her groom at the eleventh hour after she found out that the love of her life eats ‘gutka’, a form of tobacco powder consumed in South Asia. The incident occurred in Morarpati, a small village in district Bali of India’s Uttar Pradesh state.

The ceremony, Morarpati police said, began traditionally when the groom, resident of Dallan Chapra reached Lal Ganj. They were welcomed warmly by the bride’s family followed by the marriage customs.

As soon as the groom was called to the temple for nuptial tie, the bride spotted him chewing gutka, and refused to be married to him, leaving both the families bewildered.

The groom and his family eventually became infuriated over the refusal and amid ruckus went to a nearby police station to lodge a complaint against the bride and her family.

The two families, police added, later deliberated upon the matter for hours but the bride remained adamant she wouldn’t marry anyone habitual of consuming gutka, so much so that he would do so on the day of their marriage.

The bride, police added, is a bachelors degree holder and keen about cleanliness whereas the groom appeared to be addicted to the tobacco powder for years.
